Biotechnology in China Universities

Biotechnology nowadays has been effective in relieving society from problems that trace back to past in new ways. Through the thorough research and applied science of using living cells, as well as the discovery of new molecules, the innovation of biotechnology give us the voice to let the world know our most urgent needs such as eradicating the disease and poverty as well as expressing care for our environment.   Countries from all over the world are doing their best in identifying the importance of biotechnology for the well-being of their economies, the health of their citizens, by providing their food supply, capability to help establish clean energy.

So why study Biotechnology in China?

China, in particular, has ensured the steady growth biotechnology industry that would help reach one of its top national priorities. Taking home to more than one-fifth of the world’s population, China is considered as an important market for biotech products. Identifying the country’s great potential for the global kingship in the industry, the Chinese government is striving to put companies and innovation on the map, thus tackling the challenges of a new era in this particular field.

Due to support from the government and the scientific community, and vigorous transformation to improve the infrastructure, these recent years China has witnessed a rapid progress in some important fields of life science and biotechnology

China is recognized as one of the countries with enormous amounts of biological resources in the world. It is the only country on earth which avail everything from tropical, subtropical, temperate to boreal forests and this has led to the formation of rich biological diversities which are rarely seen elsewhere. According to the statistics, China owns approximately 10% of the world's biological resources. Some 31, 000 plant species are native to China, which represent nearly one-eighth of the world's total plant species, including thousands that are found nowhere else on earth. Therefore, China is praised as the ‘Mother of the World Garden’. So far, 0.32 million idioplasmatic units of crops have been collected. There has been a rapid progress in the recent efforts to collect DNA samples and/or cell lines from the 56 ethnic groups of the Chinese population. This led in China being granted with tremendous resources for developing life sciences and biotechnology.
