Confucius Institute Assessment Forum
On December 1, 2017, HQUFL-NJCU Confucius Institute hosted a “CI Assessment Forum in New York Area” at School of Business. The CI directors and teachers from Columbia University, Pace University, Temple University, and China Institute attended the forum. NJCU Senior Vice President and Provost, Dr. Daniel Julius was the keynote speaker. He presented on CIs assessment challenges and suggested that all CIs should collect valid data, make sure of the core programs and activities, find ways to replicate success, develop best practices and apply the CI outcomes to training programs and cultural activities. He emphasized that CIs should place great importance on qualitative assessment in addition to quantitative measures. The key is to see whether the CI’s program and activity change people’s attitude and values.
The other CI Directors also shared their CI’s assessment practices,introduced the institute main programs and challenges.
The forum played an importance role on strengthening CI’s assessment and improving teaching quality. An agreement was reached to strengthen the CIs cooperation and share resources in the future.
