2017 Natural Product Synthesis and Discovery Forum Held in ZJUT
On 23 March, the 2017Natural Product Synthesis and Discovery Forum was held on Zhaohui Campus, Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT).
ZJUT Vice President Yu Xiaofen addressed the forum. Professor Tu Yongqiang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor from Lanzhou University, also attended the meeting.
Participants included well-known specialists and scholars from prestigious institutions such as China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, Chongqing University, the CICYRDRGP, and so on, and more than 100 students and teachers of ZJUT.
Under the theme of “Natural Medicine Synthesis, Natural Lead Compounds, Innovative Marine Drugs and Traditional Chinese Medicine Metabolism Study”, specialists and scholars exchanged views on the latest developments and achievements in the field of natural medicine. These discussions have received warm responses from the attendees.
After the presentations, specialists, teachers and students interacted with the presenters, discussing related issues.
Academician of CAE Appointed as Chief Scientist of CICYRDRGP
On the afternoon of 22 March, Chen Fen’er, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and professor of Fudan University, was appointed as the chief scientist of Collaborative Innovation Center of Yangtze River Delta Region Green Pharmaceuticals (CICYRDRGP).
The appointment ceremony was held on Zhaohui Campus, Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT). ZJUT President Cai Yuanqiang and Vice President Yu Xiaofen attended the ceremony.
Cai extended his sincere thanks to Prof. Chen for joining the Center as the chief scientist, saying that his future guidance and help to both student cultivation and first-class disciplinary development would be beneficial to the Center. Besides, ZJUT would also whole heartedly support and collaborate with his work.
Chen said that Zhejiang province had a solid foundation for fine chemical industry and would prosper in this field in the future; ZJUT has long been cooperating well with local businesses. He would continue doing research and endeavor to make contributions to the pharmacy industrialization in China.
Dr. Chen Fen’er specializes in fine organic chemistry and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), having invented five new techniques of producing 13 APIs on his own. He joined CAE as an academician in 2015.
ZJUT Ranks Tenth in National Valid Invention PatentHoldings in Colleges and Universities
The Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education recently released the 2016 rankings of Top 50 valid invention patent holdings in colleges and universities.
Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) ranked tenth, the same as last year, amongst others, with its total number of patents reaching 2,722.
The Top 9 universities were Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Southeastern University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, etc.
The Top 5 colleges in ZJUT which registered invention patents under the name of ZJUT in 2016 were the College of Mechanical Engineering (177 items), the College of Chemical Engineering (90 items), the College of Information Engineering (77 items), the College of Pharmaceutical Science (53 items), and the College of Computer Science & Technology (29 items).
