Located in the beautiful port city Ningbo,
Ningbo University is a dynamic, young and comprehensive university with a wide
range of disciplines: economics, law, education, liberal arts, history, science,
engineering, agronomy, medicine and management. Established in 1986, with the
first donation from Sir Yue-Kong Pao, it has been developed into one of the key
institution of higher learning of Zhejiang Province.
The university has five campuses, covering an area
over 3000 acres, with a floor space totaling 790,000 square meters. The main
campus, adjacent to Feng Hua Road in the north and Yongjiang River in the south,
offers wide space for study and research with magnificent buildings and pleasant
lawns and greenery. The university supplies a complete set of facilities and
services for teaching, and research. Its libraries now have a CNKI Network
Administration Service Center, and a collection of approximately 3,310,000
books. It has 8 affiliated hospitals and 8 hospitals for internship.
Research and Development
The
university focuses on the Research and Development and acquires various
resources from the central, provincial and municipal governments. Its short-term
goal is becoming a teaching and research orientated university.
During the
eleventh Five-Year Plan, The number of projects funded by central government
increases from 33 to 62, the total annual fund for research rose from 0.1885
billion to 0.3 billion RMB.
It also achieved 5 National Sci-Tech Progress Awards (second
class), which includes ‘the innovation and industrialization of key technology
for sea-water active bait and swelling-feeding’, ‘the R&D and
industrialization of energy-saving equipment for drinking-water
advanced-treatment’, ‘ innovation and application of key technology for wireless
media telecommunicating transition and terminal system’ etc.
12 Ministerial
Natural Science Awards (first class) and Zhejiang Provincial Sci-Tech Awards
(first class), and many Ningbo Municipal Sci-Tech Awards (first class) were
achieved by Ningbo University during this period of time.
Teaching & Programs
The
university consists of 19 faculties and colleges offers 6 PhD programs, 135
master programs and 71 bachelor programs. The number of its full-time
undergraduate students amounts to 25,000 with 4000 in-residency postgraduates,
400 international students and 15400 part-time students. The number of teaching
and administrative staff reaches 2330 of which more than 1300 are teachers, with
5 academicians, 283 full professors and 507 associate professors.
There are
5 courses are qualified as the national excellent courses including English,
Sports-biology, Anthropotomy, Economics Law, P.E. Economics. 6 programs
including Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Aquaculture, English, Computer
Science, Law, Physical Education are ranked as the national brand characteristic
programs.

Exchange
Ningbo University has been attaching great attention to the
development of international cooperation and exchanges. Up to now, the
university has maintained close links and intercollegiate cooperation with
almost 80 well-known institutions of higher education in more than 30 countries
such as Purdue University (USA), Canberra University, Wollongong University
(Australia), University of Montreal (Canada). Ningbo University collaborates
various programs with these universities. More than 130 students are sent to
overseas universities as exchange students every year. Ningbo University also
offers 6 English taught programs such as Bachelor of International Economics and
Trade, Clinical Medicine, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration and
Master of Business Administration and Aquaculture to recruit international
students.
International Cooperative Base-(National
Level)
Ningbo University collaborates with University of Montreal, Calgary
University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Nanyang Technological
University on Innovative project on New Telecommunication Technology and System,
which is funded by the National Bureau of Foreign Experts and Ministry of
Science and Technology. Professors from different universities come together to
do cooperative research, workshop, academic exchange. One of research findings
was awarded the National Sci-Tech Progress Award (second class) in 2009.
