Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (formerly Beijing Institute of Aeronautics) or Beihang University (spelled in Chinese for short) was founded on October 25, 1952, originated from the merger of the aeronautical departments of Tsinghua University, Beiyang University, Amoy University, Sichuan University, Yunnan University, etc. Being located in the center of the Zhongguancun Science Park, next to the National Olympic Center, with an area of 1km×1km, Beihang is the first university in China focusing on aeronautical and astronautical education and research. The university's second campus, named Shahe, also 1km×1km, is 20km away from the main campus.
