Xinjiang Normal University is located in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, near the Chinese portion of the ancient Silk Road and at the foot of the northern Tianshan Mountains. As a key University in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it is famous for its pedagogical and comprehensive education, ethnic diversity and regional distinctiveness.Xinjiang Normal University consists of 11 Colleges, offering undergraduate and vocational education, postgraduate education, international students' education, and adult education (continuing education). There are more than 25,000 students studying in the campus. The key subjects include two of provincial level: Ethnology and Religion, the Oasis Study, and 7 of University level: Education Science, the Ethnic Language and Literature, the History and Literature of the Western Region in China, Sports, Musicology, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and the Marxist Theory. There are 4 research centers, 10 research sections and 16 research institutes. A National Examination Site of Teacher Certification for Chinese as a Foreign Language, the Xinjiang Training Center for Teachers of Higher Education, the Xinjiang Training Center for Bilingual Teaching and Research, and the Xinjiang Center of Teachers' Qualification are also located at the University. The University has a collection of over 1,100,000 volumes.
