Chinese Government Scholarship
Lanzhou University (LZU) was founded in 1909. It is located in Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu province at the upper stream of the Yellow River. LZU is a key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and a member of “985 Project” university. Today LZU offers 235 master programs and 116 doctoral programs. There are more than 450 international students from 52 countries all over the world studying at Lanzhou University.

2. Scholarship students are exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fees for laboratory experiment, accommodations, and basic learning materials
3. Monthly living allowance is granted to the students from the date of registration at the following rates:
Master’s Degree: RMB 3,000
Doctoral Degree: RMB3,500
3.Students will be provided with comprehensive medical insurance.
4. Lanzhou University will provide intramural accommodation for the individual scholarship student according to the relevant regulations. The university will not be responsible for any expenses entailed by any family members or visitors.
III. Details of studies
1. Full-time programs
2. All courses are taught in Chinese.
3. The duration of major studies is 3 years (not including language study). With specific cases, under the approval of the university and CSC, student can complete the program prior to or later than the duration.
4. Qualifications for Scholarship Application
5. Applicants must be Non-Chinese Nationality and in good health. Applicants must hold valid passports and will observe all the laws of China as well as the rules and regulations of Lanzhou University.
6. Applicants for Master Degree studies must finish a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent and aged under 35.
7. Applicants for Doctoral Degree studies must finish a Master’s Degree or its equivalent and aged under 40.

Application is open to applicant who owns a non-Chinese citizenship, aged
between 16 and 35, in good health condition, (Applicant is currently working in
a Chinese language teaching position shall not exceed the age limit of 45.
Undergraduate student shall not exceed the age limit of 20).
1. Scholarship
for Master's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)
This category provides a sponsorship for 2 academic years. Applicant should
own a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test
(Level 5), and a minimum score of 50 in HSKK Test (Intermediate Level).
Applicant who is able to provide the employment agreement or certification upon
finishing the study from designated working institutions is preferred.

Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study + MTCSOL Students
This category
provides a sponsorship for 3 academic years. Applicant should provide the
employment agreement from a designated Confucius Institute or a prospective
working institution. Applicant should hold a bachelor's degree or its
equivalent, a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and a minimum score of
60 in HSKK Test (Beginner Level).
3. Scholarship for Bachelor's Degree in
Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) Students
This
category provides a sponsorship for 4 academic years. Applicant should hold a
high school diploma or above, a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and
a minimum score of 40 in HSKK Test (Intermediate Level).
4. Scholarship for
One-Academic-Year Study Students
This category provides a sponsorship for 11
months. Application is open to Confucius Institute (Classroom) students,
overseas Chinese language teachers, Chinese language major students and
excellent performers in HSK test. International students who are now studying in
China are not eligible for the scholarship. Applicant should have a minimum
score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and 60 in HSKK test (Beginner Level).
Alternatively, applicant should hold a minimum score of 180 in BCT (A) , and a
minimum score of 180 BCT (Speaking).
5. Scholarship for One-Semester Study
Students
This category provides a sponsorship for 5 months. Applicant should
have no prior experience of studying in China, but have a minimum score of 120
in HSK Test (Level 2), and a minimum score of 40 in HSKK (Beginner Level).
Alternatively, applicant should have a minimum score of 100 in BCT (A), and a
minimum score of 120 in BCT (Speaking).
6. Scholarship for Four-Week Study
Students
This category provides a sponsorship for 4-week study which is
mainly focusing on Chinese language. Application is mainly open to Confucius
Institute (Classroom) students, excellent performers in HSK test, and
outstanding club members of Confucius Institute Magazine. Applicant should
submit a HSK or BCT score report, and have no prior experience of studying in
China.
"Chinese Bridge" (Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College
Students) Winners who have been awarded the 2016 "Confucius Institute
Scholarship Certificate" can apply for admission according to the scholarship
specified in the certificate.
I. Scholarship places and standards
No more than 30 places each year, scholarships are only used to reward living expenses.
1. No more than 5 places for first-class scholarship, the amount of scholarship covers 100% of tuition fee;
2. No more than 10 places for second-class scholarship, the amount of scholarship covers 75% of tuition fee;
3. No more than 15 places for third-class scholarship, the amount of scholarship covers 50% of tuition fee.
This scholarship provides a sponsorship for 10 months each year which will be sent monthly; Accommodation fee is exempt from the charge, tuition and registration fees will be supported by students themselves.
II. Eligibility for application
1. Non-Chinese citizens. Hold a valid foreign passport, in good health condition, behave well, abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the university
2. Application categories are undergraduate, master's and doctoral students. applicants for undergraduate shall not exceed the age limit of 25, applicants for master’s shall not exceed the age limit of 35, applicants for doctorate shall not exceed the age limit of 40.
3. Not getting Chinese government scholarship or other scholarship from any institutions.
III. Qualification for Application
1. Undergraduates: applicants with HSK4 certificate and transcript of high school can apply for first-class scholarship.
2. Graduates: applicant with HSK5 certificate and academic or research results can apply for first-class scholarship.
Current self-support students (Bachelor’s degree, majored in Chinese language) can apply for first-class scholarship whose attendance rate should above 95%, 75 points above in each subject, 80 in average scores; they can apply for second-class scholarship whose attendance rate should above 90%, 70 points above in each subject, 75 in average scores; they can apply for third-class scholarship whose attendance rate should above 85%, 65 points above in each subject, 70 in average scores. Individuals who study hard, have good academic performance and are actively involved in various activities while are rewarded can also apply for this scholarship.
