Recently, Mr. Zhang Junxi, vice-president of Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, visited the University of Portsmouth, UK. During the visit to Portsmouth, vice-president Zhang Junxi and his delegation met with Mr. Pal Ahluwalia, executive vice president of University of Portsmouth. Both parties discussed on further promoting bilateral exchanges and cooperation between two universities. Mr. Sun Jiancheng, Director of Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, TUFE and Mr. Gioia Pecetto, Dean of Portsmouth Business School, attended the meeting.
Mr. Pal Ahluwalia extended his warm welcome to vice-president Zhang Junxi and the delegation, he expects to strengthen the cooperation with TUFE in the areas of economy, accounting and finance.
Vice-president Zhang Junxi introduced TUFE’s general information, and its achievement in internationalization education to the counterpart. He expressed that TUFE will do the best to establish long-term and stable cooperative relationship with the University of Portsmouth. Two universities reached a preliminary intent on the development of Confucius Institute.
Before the meeting concluded, vice-president Zhang Junxi and Director Sun Jiancheng met with TUFE students who are now studying at the University of Portsmouth. The leadership team asked about their studies and life in the UK, and encouraged the students to work hard to become the outstanding internationalization talents.

Vice-president Zhang Junxi attending 2015 UK Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms Annual Conference
On October 22 to 23, 2015 UK Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms Annual Conference was held in the University College London (UCL). Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his state visit to the United Kingdom, attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered an important speech.
Invited by Confucius Institute Headquarters and UCL Confucius Institute, Mr. Zhang Junxi, vice-president of Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, attended the conference in the company of Mr. Sun Jiancheng, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation, Mr. Wen Xiuying, Dean of the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication and Ms. Liuhui, Executive Deputy Dean of the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication. Vice-president Zhang Junxi exchanged his thoughts with Chinese-foreign university presidents and other delegates in the panel discussions.
"Confucius Institutes and the Confucius Classrooms Sustainable Development" is the theme of this year's conference. The panel discussions among Chinese-foreign university presidents centered on four topics: the university’s five-year plan to the Confucius Institutes; the quality and characteristics of running schools; the in-depth collaboration between Chinese-foreign universities; and the Confucius new sinology plan. Vice-president Zhang Junxi said in the discussion that the Confucius Institute established jointly by Tianjin University of Finance and Economics and Heriot-Watt University is designed to be a “business and communication” institute, since the former specializes in finance and economics.
Being a window and platform of business exchange between Tianjin and UK, the institute is supposed to take advantages of the superposition opportunity of Tianjin’s Big Five Development Strategies, and to serve the regional economy and national strategy. Vice-president Zhang Junxi also mentioned the borrow potential, upon which TUFE makes the Confucius Institute as a base in the UK, will proactively expand exchange and cooperation, and explore high-quality education resources from other universities, with the aim of strengthening our science research and discipline construction.
Currently, there are totally 29 Confucius Institutes and 124 Confucius Classrooms in the UK. Co-established by Tianjin University of Finance and Economics and Heriot-Watt University since June 2014, the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication, with the joint efforts and collaboration from both universities, have achieved gratifying successes in teaching Chinese and cross-culture exchanges.

The 8th International Symposium of Corporate Governance Held in TUFE
On September 5 to 6, The 8th International Symposium of Corporate Governance- Issue on 2015 China Public Corporate Governance Index, jointly hosted by Schools of Business and Research Institutes of Corporate Government both in TUFE and Nankai University, was convened in TUFE. Professor Gong Ke, President of Nankai University, Mr. Zhou Jun, Chief Supervisor of China Association for Public Companies, Mr. Zhang Donggang, Director of Department of Social Sciences of Ministry of Education, Mr. Liu Xin, Deputy Inspector of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, Mr. Guo Junwang, IPO Department of China Securities Regulatory Commission, Ms. Wang Yuying, Secretary of CPC TUFE Committee, attended the Symposium. President Li Wei’an hosted the Symposium and issued the 2015 China Public Corporate Governance Index.
Over 350 attendees including famous scholars of expertise in corporate governance from USA, UK, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Israel, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan, experts from 164 universities and institutions, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Renmin University of China, Sun Yat sen University, Xiamen University, Shandong University, Tianjin University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences, and representatives from business, industry and regulators attended the Symposium.
Ms. Wang Yuying extended her warm welcome to the attendees, and briefed TUFE’s development history and its achievements and breakthroughs in discipline development and research organization. She also emphasized that the Symposium is built on the Research Institute of China Corporate Governance, which is regarded as the base of humanities and social sciences of Ministry of Education, and TUFE’s research development is undergoing a leap forward development through the win-win cooperation under the strategy of “One base- Two universities” coordinative development.
Afterwards, Prof. Tan Jinsong from School of Business of York University, Canada, Prof. Peter A.Bamberger from Tel Aviv University, Israel, Prof. Chen Jinghan from School of Business of University of Southampton, UK, Prof. Seguchi Kiyoshino from Institute of Canon Strategic Research, Japan, and Prof. Dimitris Andriosopoulos from University of Strathclyde, UK delivered speeches and reports on topics including relations between government and business, and between salary openness and corporate governance, future research focuses on corporate governance, and experience sharing of Japanese state-owned corporate governance.
Scholars from Tsinghua University, Nankai University, Zhongshan University, Shandong University, University of International Business and Economics, East China University of Political Science and Law, Capital University of Economics and Business, Wuhan University, Beijing Normal University, Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, and National Taiwan University, gave reports on their research achievements in corporate governance.
There are twelve sessions during the Symposium, in which discussions and analysis among scholars home and abroad were made in fields of board governance and strategic management, corporate governance and innovation, corporate governance and finance, corporate governance and shareholder behavior, group and family business governance, financial institutions governance and macro environment, managers governance and senior executives motivation, stakeholders and social responsibilities, experimental economics and corporate governance, network governance, information disclosure, internal control, and legal issues on mixed-ownership. After sessions, the best proposals were appraised and awarded, and the Symposium achieved the satisfactory results as expected.
Over 20 media agencies including CCTV, People’s Daily, China National Radio, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, China Youth Daily, Hong Kong Commercial Daily, and China Business Times made spot coverage and report of the Symposium. The whole Symposium was broadcast live on Xinhua Net. Strong support was given to the Symposium by Corporate Governance Committee of Chinese Society for Management Modernization, China Group Companies Association, Network Governance Committee of Chinese Institute 0f Business Administration, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, Development Research Center of the State Council, China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Securities Regulatory Commission, China Insurance Regulatory Commission, Shanghai Stock Exchange, Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, Ministry of Education, Department of Management Science of National Natural Science Foundation of China.
7 Symposiums have been successfully held since 2011. Here comes the 8th . Totally 2600 representatives attended the Symposiums, contributing over 2400 proposals. In the past fifteen years, China’s public corporate governance has rapidly developed, which went through the stages of concept introduction, structure construction, and mechanism construction, and is striding forward the new stage of focusing on comprehensive improvement of governance effectiveness and capability. Governance reform in China follows the development steps of corporate governance, government governance, non-profit organization governance, nation governance, and society governance. Achievements in the Symposium will provide an important reference in pursuit of deepening the corporate governance reform and nation governance system, and modernizing the governance.
Tianjin Research Institute for Coordinative Innovation of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region Development Inaugurated
In order to carry out the Outline for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) Coordinative Development, and seek for the development strategy for regional coordinative innovation, “the First BTH Coordinative Innovation Development Symposium and Inaugural Ceremony of Tianjin Research Institute for Coordinative Innovation of Beijing-Tianjin- Hebei Region Development”, jointly conducted by TUFE and Wuqing District, was held in Wuqing Development Area. Mr. Han Jinyu, Deputy Director of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, Mr. Fan Jie, Director of Research Center for Sustainable Development of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ms. Huang Qunhui, Director of Institute of Industrial Economics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Li Wei’an, President of TUFE, Ms. Zhang Ling, Vice Secretary of CPC TUFE Committee, Mr. Li Jiancheng Standing Deputy Chief of Wuqing District Government, and over 70 representatives from academia and industry attended the symposium. Mr. Wang Xiaoning, Secretary of CPC Wuqing Committee, met the attendees.
President Li Wei’an addressed to the ceremony. He said that the founding of the Institute is of great significance to the cooperation between TUFE and local governments, which will better serve the BTH coordinative development. The Institute integrates the research strengths of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, National Development and Reform Commission, and outstanding universities nationwide, committed to building a platform of high-level think tank leading national development and mobilizing the surroundings. The Symposium, with focus on the academic exchange in BTH coordinative innovation development, will benefit the rational distribution of the regional innovation resources, and propel the establishment of the regional academic knowledge community.
Ms. Zhang Ling, on behalf of TUFE, declared the inaugural of the Institute and the appointment to Mr. Fan Jin as the Director of the Institute. President Li Wei’an and Mr. Li Jiancheng unveiled the Institute, and President Li awarded Mr. Fan the letter of appointment, followed by Director Fan’s inaugural address.
In the afternoon, the first council session of the Institute was held, in which the lists of the council members and administrative leaders of the Institute, and the documents of “The Constitution” and “The 2015 Working Plan” of the Institute were considered and approved.
Attendees are mainly the experts and scholars from International Cooperation Center of National Development and Reform Commission, Research Center for Sustainable Development of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Industrial Economics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Capital University of Economics and Business, Hebei University of Economics and Business, and University of Southampton, UK, as well as the standing director of Tianjin Management Institute, chiefs from Tianjin Tasly Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock Co. Ltd., Tianjin Hitech Investment Co.Ltd, and government departments and business companies in Wuqing District, and teachers from TUFE. The Symposium passed off successfully with very fruitful achievements.
