Otorhinolaryngology (also called otolaryngology-head and neck surgery) is a surgical subspecialty within medicine that deals with conditions of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT)
and related structures of the head and neck. Doctors who specialize in
this area are called otorhinolaryngologists, otolaryngologists, ENT
doctors, ENT surgeons, or head and neck surgeons. Patients seek
treatment from an otorhinolaryngologist for diseases of the ear, nose, throat, base of the skull, and for the surgical management of cancers and benign tumors of the head and neck.
Otolaryngologists diagnose and manage diseases of the ears, nose,
sinuses, larynx (voice box), mouth, and throat, as well as structures of
the neck and face.
The ears
Hearing loss
affects one in ten North Americans. The unique domain of
otolaryngologists is the treatment of ear disorders. They are trained in
both the medical and surgical treatment of hearing loss, ear
infections, balance disorders, ear noise (tinnitus), and some cranial
nerve disorders. Otolaryngologists also manage congenital (birth)
disorders of the outer and inner ear.
The nose
About
35 million people develop chronic sinusitis each year, making it one of
the most common health complaints in America. Care of the nasal cavity
and sinuses is one of the primary skills of otolaryngologists. Problems
in the nasal area include allergies, smell disorders, polyps, and nasal
obstruction due to a deviated septum.
The throat
Communicating
(speech and singing) and eating a meal all involve this vital area.
Specific to otolaryngologists is expertise in managing diseases of the
throat, larynx (voice box), and the upper aero-digestive tract or
esophagus, including voice and swallowing disorders.
The head and neck
This
area of the body includes the important functions of sight, smell,
hearing, and the appearance of the face. In the head and neck area,
otolaryngologists are trained to treat infections, benign
(non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) tumors, facial trauma, and
deformities of the face. They perform both cosmetic plastic and
reconstructive surgery.
Residents see cases generated from approximately 40,000 outpatient
private visits and 2,800 outpatient clinic visits per year. Surgery
volume resulting from this approaches 4,200 surgical cases which the
residents participate in throughout the year. A full spectrum of
clinical cases is available for teaching, and residents finishing the
program perform approximately 1,800 cases as operating surgeons. An
important feature of this residency is that it offers an extensive
general training in otolaryngology with exposure to fellowship trained
faculty in all subspecialties available in otolaryngology. This has
resulted in a high level of clinical case material and resulting
training.

Answer: Processing time varies for different applications. For example to process a degree program application requires more time than a Chinese language application. Confirmation for Chinese language application by the admission office usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. However, time for degree programs application differs. For example fall semester application processing is after March, and it takes a period of 1 to 2 months. This also depends on your qualification and the number of applicants.
