Department introduction
West China School of Stomatology known as the birthplace of China\'s modern dental science education was started from Ren-Ji Dental Clinic founded in 1907. For the past 100 years, West China School of Stomatology has enjoyed the reputation as the Mecca of China higher education in dental sciences.
The West China Hospital of Stomatology has long been ranked as one of the national top hospitals. The hospital functions as the clinical treatment center for oral diseases and maxillofacial surgery in the Western-China area.

Teaching and Education
West China school of Stomatology Sichuan University, formerly known as the Dental School of West China Union University, was founded in 1917, which was the origin of modern dental education in China. Till 1949, the college had set up eight faculties: Oral Anatomy and Physiology, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Periodontology, Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry to train students. On October 6th, 1953, West China Union University changed its name to Sichuan Medical College, and the college was renamed to be the faculty of Stomatology. In 1985, Sichuan Medical College was granted the name of West China University of Medical Science by government, and our faculty became the College of Stomatology, West China University of Medical Sciences. The college was made up of five sub-faculties then, including Oral Basic Science, Oral Conservative Dentistry, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, and Orthodontics. On September 29th, 2000, West China University of Medical Science officially merged with Sichuan University, since then our college has been given the name as West China school of Stomatology of Sichuan University.
