New materials always open door to new technologies, in fields like civil, chemical, construction, nuclear, aeronautical, agricultural, mechanical, biomedical or electrical engineering.
The definition of the academic field of Materials Engineering stems from a realization concerning every application of materials. The properties of the material gives it value. A material may be chosen for its strength, its electrical properties, resistance to heat or corrosion, or a host of other reasons; but they all relate to properties.
Experience shows that all of the useful properties of a material are intimately related to its structure, at all levels, including which atoms are present, how the atoms are joined, and how groups of atoms are arranged throughout the material. Most importantly, we learn how this structure, and the resulting properties, are controlled by the processing of the material.
Finally materials must perform their tasks in an economical and societally responsible manner. Understanding the relationships between properties, structure, processing and performance makes the Materials Engineer the master of the engineering universe.
The basis of materials science involves studying the structure of materials, and relating them to their properties. Once a materials scientist knows about this structure-property correlation, they can then go on to study the relative performance of a material in a given application. The major determinants of the structure of a material and thus of its properties are its constituent chemical elements and the way in which it has been processed into its final form. These characteristics, taken together and related through the laws of thermodynamics and kinetics, govern a material's microstructure, and thus its properties.
Materials exhibit myriad properties, including the following.
· Mechanical properties, see Strength of materials
· Chemical properties, see Chemistry
· Electrical properties, see Electricity
· Thermal properties, see Thermodynamics
· Optical properties, see Optics and Photonics
· Magnetic properties, see Magnetism
The properties of a material determine its usability and hence its engineering application.
Educational Objectives
The world of science and technology in the new millennium is facing growing challenges in the areas of Information Technology, Energy and Environmental Sciences. In all these endeavors, materials issues are ubiquitous and the understanding of the underpinning physics and scientific principles is essential.
The goal of this program is to train the graduates to master the basic theory, basic knowledge of material physics, and basic skills of modern material sciences and engineering and have knowledge about the latest development of this discipline. Through the training, the students have the ability to undertake application research, technology development and production management in material sciences and engineering and be capable of continuing education and entrepreneurial activity in the related area.

§ Question: What is the cost of applying through ACASC?
Answer: ACASC charges a service fee of 50$ for using its online application portal. Applying through ACASC into Chinese universities attracts a service fee of $50.
· Question: Can I apply to the university directly?
Answer: Yes. ACASC gives the applicants, the chance to directly apply to their desired universities through our online application portal. We have synchronized our system to create a simple platform that connects universities and colleges in China to international students all around the world.
· Question: How can I track my application status?
Answer: To track the application status, please log in your ACASC personal account. Whenever there’s an update, you will be informed on your application status through ACASC system within a day as soon as we receive university’s notification. You will simultaneously receive ACASC auto-email about the application status. To directly inquire about your application status, feel free to send us an email to admission@acasc.cn and our team will keep you updated.
· Question: How to deal with a pending application?
Answer: When an application is pending a decision it means that your school has received it and no admissions decision has been made yet. The admissions office may have reviewed your application package or may not have.
The main cause of a pending application is usually incomplete application documents. As a result you will be requested by the school’s admission office to re-check and modify all submitted application documents or perhaps even add extra documents and then re-submit them.
To avoid further delays, carefully read the university’s comments, modify your application form on ACASC, and re-upload the required application documents. You can contact ACASC on admission@acasc.cn for any help with regards to your pending application
· How long does it take to process my application?
Processing time varies for different applications. For example to process a degree program application requires more time than a Chinese language application. Confirmation for Chinese language application by the admission office usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. However, time for degree programs application differs. For example fall semester application processing is after March, and it takes a period of 1 to 2 months. This also depends on your qualification and the number of applicants.
