Discipline advantages
This program originated from the University of Veterinary Medicine of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1953. Now it has formed four distinctive research directions: Dairy chemistry and Biotechnology, Nutritional and functional food, Food safety theory, Testing Technology and Equipment, Food processing, storage and logistics.
Main research contents of dairy chemistry and biotechnology are: dairy chemistry and component interaction mechanism, functional dairy development and mechanism, new technology used in milk sterilization and processing, milk protein research and exploration of environmental protection material, nanometer material, and additive in dairy products. Our research ability is first-level on the international arena.
Main research contents of nutritional and functional food are: foodborne function peptide biological preparation technology, egg series product development and utilization of bioactive substances, changbai mountain resources separation of bioactive substances and its function characteristics and comprehensive utilization of by-product of agricultural and sideline products technology.
Main research contents of food safety theory, detection technology and equipment are: Theory of key technology and equipment research of the food processing and food quality testing, rapid detection and evaluation of food quality and safety, control theory and technology of harmful products from food processing.
Main research contents of food processing, storage and logistics are: theory and new technology of food processing and preservation, intelligent control of preservation and logistics, quality and safety of early warning system and good operating practices, research and development of high-performance edible packaging materials.

The Brief Introduction of College of Food Science and Engineering (CFSE)
College of Food Science and Engineering (CFSE) was established in 2015 through the optimization and adjustment of the discipline layout of Jilin University. The faculty and staff include over 60 people, of which 60% are academic researchers who have high-grade professional titles. CFSE has 1 ' Thousand Talents Plan ' expert, 1 Provincial Distinguished Teacher,1 Deputy Director Member of the Teaching Committee on Food Science and Engineering under the Ministry of Education and 9 Doctoral Advisors. Besides, more than 90% of the faculties have Ph.D.s. Up to now, the total number of the undergraduates and graduates in CFSE has reached 900.
CFSE has the doctor degree and the masters’ degree authorization first-level program on Food Science and Engineering, the masters’ degree authorization in engineering first-level program on Food Engineering and two undergraduate programs- Food Science and Engineering and Food Quality and Safety. Food Science and Engineering has been certified as the first major in Jilin University through the Professional Certification of Engineering Education under the Ministry of Education. It has become one of the 16 national majors certified.
Currently,CFSE has the ' Thousand Talents Plan ' Distinguished Professor Lab, Jilin Nutritional and Functional Food Key Lab, Jilin Functional Food Engineering Research Center, Jilin Food Science and Engineering Pilot Teaching Center and several other labs and medium sized experimental workshops that are involved in Food Science Basics, Food Safety, Food Engineering and Food Technology. CFSE has undertaken 200 scientific research projects at the national, provincial and University-Enterprise cooperation level. CFSE has been rewarded with 30 prizes at the national and provincial level. CFSE has applied for 200 National invention patents, of which 54 patents have been granted and 6 have been transformed into application. CFSE has published over 300 research papers,including 120 SCI indexed papers and 110 EI indexed papers. CFSE has published more than 30 academic books, of which 2 have been selected as National '12.5' textbooks. In addition, “Food Nutrition” has been selected as the National Excellent Course.
