The economics of population, resources and the environment is a new economics discipline established by the Ministry of Education. It is a branch of economics that studies the relationship between population development, natural resources, ecological environment, and economic development. It uses the basic theories and methods of economics to reveal and analyze the economic processes of the population and the basic laws and dialectical relationships between natural resources and the ecological environment. It evaluates and guides the formulation of relevant policies.
In 1997 when the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council adjusted the graduate professional catalogue, it established the second-level subjects of population, resources, and environmental economics under the first-level subject of theoretical economics. After several years of development, the discipline has not only attracted a large number of experts and Scholars, but also made a lot of valuable research results. However, as a new discipline, it is still in its infancy and in its infancy. It is still immature in many aspects of discipline construction and requires extensive discussions in the academic community in order to make this new discipline form a scientific research framework and rigorous as soon as possible. The discipline system truly serves the coordinated development and sustainable development of the social economy. In recent years, the author has also made some tentative studies in the new subject area of population, resources, and environmental economics, and gradually formed his own basic thinking on the discipline construction of population, resources, and environmental economics.
