Discipline advantages
The department of Groundwater Science and Technology of Jilin University, established in 1952 with its predecessor Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, has more than 60 years of development. Currently, the department is facilitated with a comprehensive talent-training system including undergraduate, master, doctor and post-doctor. The Faculty of Groundwater Science and Technology has a well-structured personnel group including Academician of Chinese Sciences Academy, the distinguished expert from national "1000-people plan" and "Cheung Kong Scholar” of Ministry of Education. So far, over 6000 undergraduates, 400 Masters and 100 doctoral candidates have graduated from this department with great reputation in the quality of personnel training in water conservancy industry. For years, the faculty has taken charge of hundreds of national major scientific research projects as well as production programs with significant research highlights, and makes great contribution for the national and local water projects.

The College of Environment and Resources
The College of Environment and Resources was re-organized in 2001 from the related academic disciplines of the former Changchun University of Science and Technology and the former Jilin University. The College includes two disciplines: water conservancy engineering, and environmental science and engineering.
There are three Departments in the College: groundwater science and engineering, environmental science, and environmental engineering. Other resources include the Institute of Water Resources and Environment, the key laboratory sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Land and Resources, the key laboratory sponsored by Jilin Province, and the Center for Environmental Impact Assessment.
Academic programs are grouped as follows:
*4 undergraduate programs: hydrology and water resources engineering, groundwater science and engineering, environmental science, and environmental engineering.
*6 Master's degree programs: hydrology and water resources engineering, groundwater science and engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental management and environmental economy, and water conservancy and water power engineering.
*5 doctoral degree programs: hydrology and water resources engineering, groundwater science and engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering, and environmental management and environmental economy.
*2 post-doctoral programs: environmental science and engineering, and water conservancy engineering.
At present there are 109 faculty members, with 33 full professors, 21 associate professors, and 20 lecturers. The current student enrollment in the college is 1368, with 951 undergraduates, 341 master degree students, and 76 doctoral degree students.
