Financial engineering is a multidisciplinary field involving financial theories, methods of engineering, tools of mathematics and the practice of programming. It has also been defined as the application of technical methods, especially from mathematical finance and computational finance, in the practice of finance. Despite its name, financial engineering does not belong to any of the fields in traditional professional engineering even though many financial engineers have studied engineering
beforehand and many universities offering a postgraduate degree in this
field require applicants to have a background in engineering as well. In the United States, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) does not accredit financial engineering degrees. In the United States, financial engineering programs are accredited by the International Association of Quantitative Finance. As the undergraduate program of Finance, you will receive training in
the principles of Finance and their application to a range of problems,
including financial policy and financial market. Based around a core of
monetary economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Applied
Econometrics, the programs offer a wide selection of optional courses
reflecting the diverse research interests and expertise of a large
faculty body. The goal of this program is to cultivate students’ ability
in mastering the basic principle of economics and management and
analyzing the practical issues by using statistics and applied financial
econometrics. After graduation from this program, the students should
become high-level professional talents with profound basic theories and
sound specialized knowledge in the fields of finance economics and
management and the ability of understanding financial policy and market. This
is a four-year undergraduate program, which can be completed within a
minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years. A total of 158
credits are required upon the completion of the program, which include
49 credits from General Education Curriculum, 42 credits from Basic
Curriculum, 39 credits from Essential Curriculum and 28 credits from
Elective Curriculum.
Financial engineering draws on tools from applied mathematics, computer science, statistics and economic theory. In the broadest sense, anyone who uses technical tools in finance could be called a financial engineer, for example any computer programmer in a bank or any statiscisan in a government economic bureau. However, most practitioners restrict the term to someone educated in
the full range of tools of modern finance and whose work is informed by
financial theory. It is sometimes restricted even further, to cover only those originating new financial products and strategies. Financial engineering plays a key role in the customer-driven derivatives business. which encompasses quantitative modelling and programming, trading and risk managing derivative products in compliance with the regulations and Basel capital/liquidity requirements

Processing time varies for different applications. For example to process a degree program application requires more time than a Chinese language application. Confirmation for Chinese language application by the admission office usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. However, time for degree programs application differs. For example fall semester application processing is after March, and it takes a period of 1 to 2 months. This also depends on your qualification and the number of applicants.
