Thus "design" may be a substantive referring to a categorical abstraction of a created thing or things (the design of something), or a verb for the process of creation as is made clear by grammatical context. It is an act of creativity and innovation.

Artistic Design (Fashion & Artistic Design) aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills of fashion design. Students will get familiar with the process from inspiration to expression, from painting to form shaping, as well as the latest information in the world fashion circle. It emphasizes the combination of practice and theory. We aim to train students with both design creativity and hand-making skills.

This program takes advantage of its location in shanghai, the metropolitan city, pays equal attention to theory and practice, covers both fashion art and fashion engineering, and integrates teaching with social practice to produce high-level personnel for fashion design and fashion research. It has gradually fostered a society-oriented, innovation-conscious, market-sensitive, and practice-centered feature. The graduates, after 4-year’s professional training, have not only the knowledge of fashion industry and fashion market, but also the ability to foresee the trend. After 20 years’ effort, the program has gathered certain influence at home and abroad. Over 10 fashion institutes from overseas have established exchange relationship with the college and many fashion enterprises have become the internship bases and sponsors.

Since 2003, Donghua University begins collaboration with Japan Bunka Fashion Institute. The joint run institute aims to train professionals engaging in the field of fashion design. The students will study in Donghua University for two and half years. Students who pass all the courses and Japanese aptitude test can study in Japan Bunka Fashion Institute for 1 year if they obtain the Japanese student visa. The last semester will be in Donghua University to complete their graduation project. The students will receive diploma both from Donghua University and Bunka Fashion Institute if they are eligible for graduation, and the qualified students will be conferred a bachelor’s degree by Donghua University.

• Question: What is the cost of applying through ACASC?

Answer: To track the application status, please log in your ACASC personal account. Whenever there’s an update, you will be informed on your application status through ACASC system within a day as soon as we receive university’s notification. • Question: How to deal with a pending application?

Answer: When an application is pending a decision it means that your school has received it and no admissions decision has been made yet. The admissions office may have reviewed your application package or may not have.

The main cause of a pending application is usually incomplete application documents. As a result you will be requested by the school’s admission office to re-check and modify all submitted application documents or perhaps even add extra documents and then re-submit them.

• Question: How long does it take to process my application?

Answer: Processing time varies for different applications. For example to process a degree program application requires more time than a Chinese language application. Confirmation for Chinese language application by the admission office usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. However, time for degree programs application differs. For example fall semester application processing is after March, and it takes a period of 1 to 2 months. This also depends on your qualification and the number of applicants.
